Watermelon Bust is Lambda Chi Alpha's annual philanthropy event. It is a food drive that benefits the Brazos Valley Food Bank as part of a larger project known as the North American Food Drive.
On November 6, 1993, Lambda Chi Alpha began an international philanthropy project that has raised more than 24.6 million pounds of food for the needy across North America. Called the North American Food Drive, this annual event has arguably become the largest single-day philanthropic project sponsored by a collegiate organization. Its success is so impressive that Lambda Chi Alpha became the first fraternity to receive the Summit Award from the American Society of Association Executives in 1995—an award presented annually to associations and companies nationwide as part of its Associations Advance America Awards Program.

The North American Food Drive touches the lives of more and more community members each year. With an increased effort in helping those who are less fortunate, we continue to uphold the ideals of the Fraternity for all to see by making a difference for the needy in our community.
In 2001, the North American Food Drive yielded 2.9 million pounds of food as 154 chapters and colonies reported totals for the November 3 event. The following year, Lambda Chi Alpha increased its collection for a yearly total of 2.9 million pounds with 151 chapters participating in the North American Food Drive on November 2, 2002. In 2005, the latest year we have totals for, Lambda Chi Alpha raised 3.135 million pounds of food!
